HDG vs. Paint in Life-Cycle Assessment Case Study 2: Parking Structures

Based on its maintenance-free durability for 75 years or more in most environments, hot-dip galvanized (HDG) steel has a lower economic cost and environmental impact than paint. It uses a healthy, abundant, and recyclable metal, zinc, to provide...

Hot-Dip Galvanized Steel is Green: Life-Cycle Assessment Supports Industry Claim

Life-cycle assessment (LCA) is the study of the environmental impact of a process or product, and includes measurement of energy consumed and all emissions during raw material production and manufacturing of the final product through use and...

Hot-Dip Galvanizing (Zinc+Steel) Takes LEED® With Recycled Content

Project owners, designers, and architects have long recognized the structural and functional advantages of hot-dip galvanized steel. Increasingly, they are recognizing its environmental attributes, especially its high reclamation rate and recycled...

Sustainable Solutions for Corrosion Protection in Alternative Energy

Hot-dip galvanizing (HDG) has provided steel corrosion protection for over 150 years and at least half a century for structures used in the generation, transmission, and distribution of energy from traditional sources. As awareness and demand for...

Hot-Dip Galvanized Steel Overview: Maintenance-Free Infrastructure Corrosion Protection

Hot-dip galvanizing is a coating of naturally occurring zinc metallurgically bonded to steel to protect it from atmospheric corrosion for 75 years or more with no maintenance. The zinc coating of hot-dip galvanized steel corrodes at a very slow...

Hot-Dip Galvanized Steel's Contribution to Zinc Levels in the Water Environment

Zinc, commonly referred to worldwide as a "healthy metal," is the 24th most abundant, naturally occurring element in the Earth's crust. Zinc is present in myriad consumer, infrastructure, agriculture, and industrial products. More importantly, zinc...

Hot-Dip Galvanized Steel's Contribution to Zinc Levels in the Soil Environment

Zinc, commonly referred to worldwide as a healthy metal, is the 24th most abundant, naturally occurring element in the Earths crust. Zinc is present in various consumer, infrastructure, agriculture, and industrial products. In contrast to man-made...

Galvanizing Reactive Steels - A Guide for Galvanizers and Specifiers

This publication, released by ILZRO, is a guide for specifiers and galvanizers on galvanizing reactive steels.

Control of Distortion in Galvanized Products

This brochure describes major causes of distortion that become evident after hot-dip galvanizing and suggest ways to reduce the risk. It shows how to eliminate extra costs and possible delays brought on by distortion. This informative packet...

Zinc: A Sustainable Material, Essential for Modern Life

Zinc, with its key attributes of essentiality, durability, versatility, and recyclability, is well positioned as a material of choice for a sustainable society. This publication, from the International Zinc Association, details the many ways zinc...
