Virtual TechForum Day 2
The AGA is hosting a virtual TechForum event throughout October 2020. Week 1 will feature Industry Expertise on Plant Operations.
Passivation for HDG Free from Hexavalent Chromium Application by Dipping (11:00 ET)
Joe Allen and Khalil Hammade - TecCoat Metal Treatments
This presentation will clear up some misconceptions regarding the performance of non-hexavalent chromium passivation coatings and their overall performance. In addition, information will be provided on environmentally-friendly alternative technologies to chrome 6 passivation, methods to reduce concerns over wet storage stain, and technologies which meet RoHS requirements.
New Resources to Assist with HDG Process Calculations: Progressive Dip and Iron Maintenance Using the Kleingarn Curve (11:30 ET)
Alana Fossa - AGA
The AGA recently launched two new resources to assist galvanizers with detailed calculations which may be performed at the galvanizing plant.
The AGA Progressive Dip Charts and the AGA Progressive Dip Calculator tools can be used to confirm whether an article of a particular size can be progressively dipped successfully. This presentation includes information on using the charts/tools to help you make educated decisions on maximum part lengths, article orientation, and minimum/maximum lifting angles for successful galvanizing.
The Kleingarn Curve is the isotherm solubility curve between hydrochloric acid concentration and iron concentration in solution at 20C (68F) depicting lines for optimum iron concentration for each hydrochloric acid concentration and saturation concentrations where pickling is no longer possible. The AGA Iron Maintenance Calculator helps galvanizers manage iron concentrations by calculating water and/or acid additions required to bring iron levels within optimal levels for hydrochloric acid pickling according to the Kleingarn Curve.
