At the beginning of 2017, the AGA released all new Galvanize It! Seminars, with updated designs and information, as well as several new featured seminars. The seminar series is one of the AGA’s top marketing tools, so we work hard to ensure the information is up-to-date and engaging for architects, engineers, and other specifiers. The AGA educates more than 2,000 specifiers every year through in-person presentations, webinars, and online courses. This year, we also created an online course through Hanley Wood University, where we have educated over 500 specifiers since April! One of the hot-dip galvanizing industry’s biggest limitations is lack of knowledge, so the AGA spreads the galvanizing message on multiple platforms that target specifiers.

The new release includes revamped versions of our most popular courses, the Core and Design, as well as the Sustainable Development course which has all of the new Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) information. Three new seminars were also developed: Duplex Systems, Reinforcing Steel (Rebar) and Bridge Design.  The new Duplex Systems: Coating Galvanized Steel Seminar provides an overview about hot-dip galvanized steel and the synergistic benefits when coated with a paint or powder coating on top. The seminar also goes into detail about the benefits of utilizing a Duplex system, important specifications for duplex systems, and preparing the HDG surface. Our new Reinforcing Steel Seminar focuses on the benefits of utilizing hot-dip galvanized reinforcing steel in concrete projects throughout North America. It goes into detail about the durability, abrasion resistance, and the overall environmental and economical sustainability of galvanized rebar. Lastly, the new Bridge Design Seminar educates engineers and other specifiers about successful specification, design, and inspection of hot-dip galvanizing on steel bridges.

In June, the AGA received the updated KTA Tator paper, containing all of the paint cost data used in the Life-Cycle Cost Calculator (LCCC). The online calculator was updated this summer, and now uses all of the most up-to-date cost information. The AGA has updated all of the cost slides in the seminars, and is in the process of releasing the new slides to members.

The Galvanize It! seminar series has been a staple of the AGA for many years. Knowledge is power; thus, we want to empower as many specifiers as possible with up-to-date information on hot-dip galvanized steel. If you are interested in becoming a presenter, let us know!
