HDG Inspector’s Course for the Mexican DOT in Querétaro Reinforces Hot-Dip Galvanizing (HDG) as a Strategic Solution for Sustainable Infrastructure in Latin America
The recent event at IMT (Instituto Mexicano del Transporte) held in Querétaro, Mexico, confirmed the growing relevance of Hot‑Dip Galvanizing as a key solution for durable, sustainable, and economically efficient infrastructure across Latin America. Galvanizers of the region were invited on behalf of IZA/AGA to attend and respond to IMT from the first line.
Organized as a technical and educational event, IZA and AGA supported the Mexican DOT which convened: SICT — Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation, SEMAR — Secretariat of the Navy (or Ministry of the Navy), SEDENA — Secretariat of National Defense, CAPUFE — Federal Roads and Bridges and Related Services, DGCC — General Directorate of Highway Conservation, DGST — General Directorate of Technical Services, universities, engineers, specifiers, and institutional stakeholders, creating a high‑value exchange focused on corrosion protection, life‑cycle performance, and sustainability.
Durability is sustainability. Galvanizing delivers long‑term corrosion protection that aligns with life‑cycle cost efficiency and decarbonization objectives,” was a consistent theme throughout the event.
AGA’s Role in Latin America
This event Querétaro DOT reaffirmed the American Galvanizers Association (AGA) as a technical reference and knowledge leader for galvanizing in Latin America—bridging global expertise and local market needs through education, standards, and best practices.
With Mexico serving as a strategic reference market in Latin America, AGA aims to expand its engagement to the HDG sector across Latin America, promoting long‑term performance, sustainability, and smarter infrastructure investments in the whole continent.
AGA Leadership – Latin America
1. Strategic Impact of the Querétaro DOT
- The Mexican DOT confirmed that galvanizing is no longer viewed as an option, but as a strategic infrastructure solution.
- Stakeholders increasingly prioritize life‑cycle performance over initial cost, particularly for public and industrial projects.
2. AGA as a Trustable Source and HDG authority
- AGA’s strength lies in its core strengths centered on technical expertise, education, and practical support for specifiers and industry professionals
- This event clearly shows that education accelerates adoption, builds trust, and positions AGA as a neutral technical authority.
3. Sustainability Narrative That Resonates in LATAM
- Durability equals sustainability: longer service life means lower emissions, fewer interventions, and better resource efficiency.
- Galvanizing aligns naturally with ESG frameworks and decarbonization strategies increasingly demanded by governments and investors.
4. Importance of Regional Alignment
- Latin America needs consistent, technically sound messaging on galvanizing.
- AGA plays a critical role in translating global zinc and galvanizing knowledge into regional applications.
- Alignment with partners strengthens credibility and market impact.
5. Mexico, one of the Reference Markets in Latin America
- Mexico functions as a technical and industrial benchmark for the region.
- The Successful event in Mexico creates a replicable model for the whole Latin American region.
