Hot-Dip Galvanized Steel Bridges
The hot-dip galvanized (HDG) steel bridges seminar was developed by the American Galvanizers Association. This course introduces you to the basics of hot-dip galvanized steel bridges. Hot-dip galvanized steel has been used in bridge designs for generations. The economical, long-lasting protection system affords bridge designers the life and minimal maintenance they desire. As with any building material, there are certain best practices for design and service environments that ensure the highest quality, longest lasting galvanized steel bridges. Understanding both the benefits and limitations of galvanized steel will assist bridge engineers in evaluating if hot-dip galvanizing is a solution for their bridge project.
The American Galvanizers Association (AGA) is a non-profit trade association dedicated to serving the needs of after fabrication hot-dip galvanizers, fabricators, architects, engineers, and other specifiers. The AGA provides technical support on today's innovative applications and state-of-the-art technological developments in hot-dip galvanizing for corrosion control.
Continuing Education Credit
The AGA is a registered provider with the following agencies. Credit earned upon completion of the course and passing the test (requires 80% or better) will be reported only at your request (by providing your AIA/ACEC number). This on-demand course is available for 1 hour of HSW credit.

The American Galvanizers Association has met the standards and requirements of the Registered Continuing Education Program. Credit earned upon completion of this program will be reported to RCEP. A certificate of completion will be issued to each participant. As such, it does not include content that may be deemed or construed to be an approval or endorsement by ACEC or RCEP.
Purpose of the Seminar
The purpose of this seminar is to educate architects, engineers and other specifiers about successful specification, design, inspection of hot-dip galvanizing on steel bridges.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Understand the hot-dip galvanizing process
- Identify reasons specifiers choose galvanized steel (corrosion protection, durability, availability, versatility, longevity, sustainability, and aesthetics)
- Employ effective bridge design practices that facilitate the use of hot-dip galvanized steel
- Conduct proper inspection and repair of HDG steel bridges
