Galvanize It! Online Seminar

Duplex Systems: Coating Galvanized Steel

The Duplex Systems: Coating Galvanized Steel seminar was developed by the American Galvanizers Association (AGA). This seminar introduces specifiers to the benefits of duplex systems as well as how to properly specify and design them. Though many specifiers are familiar with one type of corrosion protection or another, few realize the intrinsic value of utilizing two corrosion protection systems together, known as a duplex system. A duplex system is formed by painting or powder coating over hot-dip galvanized steel. When used together, the corrosion protection of the two systems combined is far superior to either protection system used independently.

The American Galvanizers Association (AGA) is a non-profit trade association dedicated to serving the needs of after-fabrication hot-dip galvanizers, fabricators, architects, engineers, and other specifiers. The AGA provides technical support on todays innovative applications and state-of-the-art technological developments in hot-dip galvanizing for corrosion control.

Purpose of the Seminar

The purpose of this seminar is to educate architects, engineers, and other specifiers about how to specify and design a successful duplex system of paint or powder coating over hot-dip galvanizing.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Understand the hot-dip galvanizing process and coating benefits
  • Identify the benefits of utilizing paint/powder coating with hot-dip galvanizing in a duplex system
  • Recognize the importance of communication and clear assignments of responsibility in the specification of successful duplex systems
  • Differentiate between HDG surface conditions in order to properly prepare the zinc coating for paint/powder
