The 50,000 seat Gopher Stadium is a point of attraction at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, selling out most games played in it. Construction requirements for the project included a finished stadium that would require little to maintenance, was highly cost effective, and employed a material that was recyclable, making hot-dip galvanized steel the perfect choice.
HDG steel offered the durability needed to withstand the abuse of thousands of visiting fans
HDG steel offered the durability needed to withstand the abuse of thousands of visiting fans, and provided a smooth finish for the exposed handrails, stairs, and gates of the stadium. It also helped protect the outdoor facility from constant exposure to the fluctuating Minnesota weather. The combined use of duplex coated steel and exposed galvanized steel provided the necessary durability and required aesthetic, and will play a major role in setting the stadium up as a corrosion-free role model for other NCAA facilities.
