In 2005 Stanford University embarked on a plan to modernize its stadium. The 50,000 seat stadium was to provide more comfortable seating, improve sight-lines, improve ingress and egress for circulation, improve ADA accessibility and seismic retrofitting.
Hot-dip galvanizing was essential to provide a cost effective, low-maintenance facility that met these goals and provided a steady stream of athletic revenue for Stanford. This stadium has high visibility, as it has played host to Super Bowls, the World Cup and Olympic soccer. Completing the project during the off-season meant turn time and shipping was critical; also, Stanford is an area with high humidity and fog, so galvanizing was a good choice for this project.
