Heavy winters and the abuse from thousands of excited fans require a safe, durable, long-lasting corrosion protection system. Galvanized steel, combined with a duplex powder coating was a natural solution to ensure the structure would remain maintenance-free for decades of fans to enjoy.
The first new football stadium in 50 years, the University of Akron has been described as the biggest news in Akron since the blimp, so protecting the stadium from corrosion was a top priority. The powder coater was the first to suggest HDG for this project, wanting the job but refusing to do it unless it was galvanized. Six hundred tons of steel were galvanized to complete the stadium, and then painstakingly painted to match the standard UA blue. The quick turnover and extended durability will keep this stadium welcoming fans come rain or shine.
