The Durham Bulls baseball team, made internationally famous by the movie Bull Durham (filmed in 1988 starring Kevin Costner, Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon), retains a fan base that continue to grow larger every year. After the teams promotion to Triple-A and the increased stadium attendance year after year, the construction for additional seating, added concessions stands and overall infrastructure to the stadium took place in 2014. The City of Durham and the Durham Bulls spent an additional $9 million in renovations to revamp the 18 year old stadium. In addition to added spectators, the stadium improvements are also being made to increase the amount of venues booked at the stadium.
The galvanized coating was specified for both its pleasing aesthetic appearance and for a maintenance-free service life of over 50+ years.
The galvanized portion of the project features new railings behind the home plate seating area, galvanized stair and ramp railing leading up the new gate entrance, stair railing leading up to the Diamond View building as well as boundary railing between the new third base party deck and the stadium seating. The galvanized coating was specified for both its pleasing aesthetic appearance and for a maintenance free service life of over 50+ years. Used for directing the +/-10,000 spectators per game, it is important that these railings are free of rust and corrosion for many years to come.
As the Durham Bulls Athletic Park continues to grow and become more successful each year, the longevity of its infrastructure remains of upmost importance. As new areas continue to be built, the HDG specification on this expansions project will insure a long life and at the same time give the stadium a pleasing aesthetic appearance.
