Disch-Falk Field

The 8,000 seat Disch-Falk Field is a well known landmark of the University of Texas campus. When it was built in 1975, the architects painted steel for all handrails and stairs. A mere twenty years later, rust was taking its toll on the steel. Plans for the new renovation included expanding the seating capacity and revitalizing the old handrail and canopies.

Wanting every budgeted dollar to count, the owner chose hot-dip galvanizing (HDG) for its cost effectiveness and low maintenance durability. HDG would also give the stadium a look that was congruent to the galvanized steel already present on the UT campus. Galvanizing will protect the rails and stairs from the heavy foot traffic and regular high pressure cleaning it receives. With all of the benefits of HDG, UT officials are avid believers in low maintenance projects that mean savings for years to come. The Dish-Falk Field will continue to be an example of the effectiveness of galvanized steel; it certainly will not be the last for the University of Texas.
