The BB&T Ballpark Stadium, setting an opening date in April 2014 and coming with a price tag of $54 million, is bringing baseball to uptown Charlotte, North Carolina. The new ballpark is reshaping the Charlotte Knights franchise, increasing overall team attendance and allowing for a return of the ACC Baseball Tournament to Charlotte. The Charlotte Knights owner and COO hope to triple the revenue of the previous stadium located in Fort Mill, South Carolina.
The galvanizing on this project was specified to keep the railings free of rust and corrosion and maintenance free for over 50 years.
HDG was specified on the stair railings, the infield fencing, the stadium walkways and the section boundaries. The galvanizing on this project was specified to keep the railings free of rust and corrosion and maintenance free for over 50 years. The appearance of the zinc coating also played a factor into the specification. The galvanized coating fits in perfectly with the modernized stadium and city skyline views. Having already surpassed the 2014 attendance expectations, another seating expansion will be required for 2015. The added bonus for specifying HDG on this project is that the sections railings can remain untouched while newer seating sections are added to increase the stadiums capacity.
The Charlotte Knights went from last place in 2013 attendance to 1st place in 2014 attendance in the International League. Knowing a stadium expansion is already being planned, having HDG specified on this project will certainly pay off for many years (and seating additions) to come.
