The Southern Bleacher company is so sold on galvanizing that it's specified on 95% of its projects. The zero-maintenance factor of hot-dip galvanized steel and the economic savings it delivers year after year was a primary driver for the TCU Lupton Stadium project . . . basic paint systems simply would not do justice to a stadium of this caliber.
All 250 tons of structural steel - including stringers, columns, beams, rail risers, and handrails - were hot-dip galvanized
The uniformity of the zinc coating and its aesthetic appeal were an additional complement to the architectural radius roof design, a key feature of this magnificent facility. The roof itself required special handling during the galvanizing process and was delivered to the site within the tight tolerances required for erection. All 250 tons of structural steel - including stringers, columns, beams, rail risers, and handrails - were hot-dip galvanized and required a 24 - 72 hour turnaround due to limited storage at the site.
The resulting finish, which exceeds the ASTM coating thickness requirements in this suburban climate, easily ensures the stadium will reach no less than 40 years of maintenance-free service. It's no coincidence that TCU chose hot-dip galvanizing as an integral part of it showcase facility. Built as part of the emergence of the university as a leader in NCAA sports, this attractive stadium is one that alumni and fans can be proud of for years.
