The new Belridge, CA, water softening treatment plant (located northwest of Bakersfield, CA) was designed using the latest technologies and constructed using an advanced 3D modular approach. The main foundational pipe rack is a proprietary design using an interlocking (machined forged) inner collar tube column that is easily assembled/disassembled to allow the entire facility to be transported (when required) to different geographical locations out in the field. It is being specifically developed to aid and eventually replace the existing treatment plant which has reached maximum capacity. Water softening treatment plants are important because water produced out in the field generally contains high concentrations of total dissolved solids (hardness) which must be significantly reduced (softened) in order to be used for multiple purposes such as boiler feed water, steam generator feed water or even simply injection to displace oil from the production wells.
We are extremely proud hot-dip galvanizing has played such a prominent role in the creation of this forward-thinking, environmentally friendly project.
This project involved detailed planning and scheduling along every step of the hot-dip galvanizing process. The manufacturer issued a strict mandate that all threaded holes on the tube columns were to be kept perfectly clean, and in following this mandate the galvanizer plugged every single threaded hole with a steel bolt. After the tube columns were hot-dip galvanized, the steel bolts were each manually removed, wire brushed and meticulously inspected for debris. Extensive clean-up on the material was also required so that the precision tolerances of the forged inner collar connections were all kept within tight specification.
When the treatment plant is in service it will be subjected to harsh, corrosive conditions and will need the complete corrosion protection coupled with extended service life hot-dip galvanizing provides. We are extremely proud hot-dip galvanizing has played such a prominent role in the creation of this forward thinking, environmentally friendly project.
