The Discovery Treehouse, a multi-colored and large water playground structure located at the Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine, Texas, is designed to attract children with its bright and vivid color scheme. The playground comprised of pipes that look like wood bark and wood grain has water continuously running through the web of pipes and ducts while children explore various bridges, nets, and web crawls.
A duplex system with hot-dip galvanizing was utilized to ensure years of play and low wear and tear costs.
At times a bucket located at the top of the structure will dump water on the anticipating children below. To maintain the visual aesthetics of the playground and to protect the steel from corrosion, a duplex system with hot-dip galvanizing was utilized to ensure years of play and low wear and tear costs. The coating needed to be applied smoothly to allow for a smooth top coat of the exterior powder finish. Having a rough surface is not only an eyesore; it could injure the children who enjoying the playground.
Thirty tons of steel was hot-dip galvanized, included all steel piping, decks, and support frames. In addition, by using HDG on the standpipes both the interior and exterior of the pipes will remain corrosion-free. The result is a long-lasting multi-colored playground that will represent the Great Wolf Lodge well for many decades to come.
