All of the steel at this water park is exposed to a moist, wet environment, making it a perfect candidate for use of galvanized steel. All structural steel and water delivery systems were hot-dip galvanized to protect the steel from corroding.
Additionally, some of the steel is subsequently powder coated and themed based on the subject matter of the structure and the look that the owner is trying to achieve. In this project, some of the vertical piping is hand-painted over the powder coating to look like palm trees. SCS Interactive has selected HDG as the premier method of corrosion protection. Prior to galvanizing, the company experienced failure in some parts in as little as one year. Fabricating, replacing, and shipping those parts under warranty was extremely expensive and time consuming. Since changing the specification to HDG and applying a duplex coating on critical parts, those problems have all but vanished. This project represents a unique and very visible application of hot-dip galvanizing and duplex coating.
