RJ Thomas started galvanizing their picnic table legs in the 1960s. They were looking for corrosion protection, longevity, and life-cycle cost compared to painted picnic table legs that had to be repainted or replaced every 8 to 10 years. Hot dip galvanizing was first choice because of prior HDG experience, and quality of HDG.
RJ Thomas was looking for a coating on picnic table legs that would keep the weather and environment elements from corroding to the base steel. Paint wasn't the answer, because of manitenance cost. They needed a coating that offered life cycle cost savings that would keep the elements away from the base steel and hot dip galvanizing fulfilled these requirements.
