The galvanizer, along with the fabricator, met an accelerated production and installation schedule that only galvanizing could meet. Over 235 tons (213 tonnes) of beams required an exact delivery schedule and perfect quality. Once delivered, the beams were immediately installed. The efforts made by the galvanizer and fabricator resulted in only a 15-minute closure of the road running underneath the bridge. Over half of the steel that was hot-dip galvanized was progressively dipped. Because of the galvanizer's efficiency, the project was completed two months early and nearly $200,000 under budget. The most important factor considered for this project was that the structure would need little to no maintenance. The other factors that were considered were delivery time, environmental concerns with the coating, and the overall cost of protection. In the final analysis, galvanizing was chosen because it allowed the best combination of price, delivery time and, more important, required near zero maintenance.
