The bridge was designed as a single span, simple beam bridge. The bridge beams are 78 ft. (24 m) long and weighed over 9 tons (8 tonnes). The only special handling involved the use of special lifting devices to process beams of this size and progressively dip them, dipping one end and then the other.
The bridge is located in a high traffic area in a mix of residential and commercial developments. Engineers felt the aesthetic quality and uniformity of galvanized beams and pipe bridge railings was acceptable to local residents and motorists. However, this was not a primary consideration in selecting hot-dip galvanizing - long-term corrosion prevention was what they wanted.
Because of heavy volume of traffic, de-icing salts are used heavily throughout the winter months. In addition, the bridge is located over a small stream with a low clearance. The engineers have made a great decision the use hot-dip galvanizing; this coating will last for decades.
