Champions Run Golf Course Scoreboard
Omaha, NE United States | 2009
The MSU Spartan football team was in its off-season but activity at the stadium was in overtime. Three massive new video scoreboards were under construction this summer, and made their debut at this falls home opener against Boise State.
The two video boards in the north end zone of Spartan Stadium combine to feature 1,600 square feet of LED space.
The fifth largest video scoreboard in the country is the centerpiece in the south end zone. The LED portion of the board alone is 47 feet high and 114 feet wide, and comes in at an amazing 5,359 square feet. The two video boards in the north end zone of Spartan Stadium combine to feature 1,600 square feet of LED space. The north rim of Spartan Stadium also features a fascia ring atop the entire north end zone wall with another 4,510 square feet of video space.
Communication between the designers, fabricator, engineering firm and the galvanizer, from CAD drawing to project completion, resulted in a smooth flow. Proper venting of the large I-beam frames resulted in a quick turn around and a quality finish. This cooperation proved to be enormously important in order to meet the opening game deadline.
Exposed to the harsh environment of Lansing, MI, this structure must withstand extreme wind along with exposure to sun, rain and snow, while providing maintenance-free protection from the damaging effects of corrosion. Hot-dip galvanizing is the ideal process for this highly visible project, protecting the exposed I-beam frames, columns, gussets and bracing for many generations of MSU fans. The durability and staying power of hot-dip galvanized steel encompasses the tradition of the MSU football program.
