The lighting structure required a very low maintenance, high corrosion prevention system due to its location. Directly in the line of flight, access is limited due to security reasons. In addition, the structure extends 200 feet over the valley below making continued maintenance costly and dangerous.
The truss was built to allow larger planes access to the regional airport. The challenge was to build this bridge truss starting at ground elevation and extend straight out over a valley that is 200 feet deep.
