CloseSince each panel of the hand railing was made individually, good communication was necessary to minimize distortion of the cold-worked pieces. The bridge was built to complete a four-lane pedestrian/bicycle bridge to cross Town Lake, near Austin, Texas.
The bridge includes a large helix ramp at one end, complying with Americans with Disabilities Act standards. To keep pedestrians and bicyclists away from busy city streets, a bridge was needed to cross Town Lake.
Working on a small maintenance budget, the Parks Dept. specified hot-dip galvanizing to provide an aesthetically pleasing, low maintenance structure that links two major bike trails near downtown Austin. Because of the exposure to the public that this bridge gets, the quality of galvanizing had to be exceptional.
