Over 15,000 tons (13,608 tonnes) of galvanized steel was used for these milking parlors. Other corrosion prevention systems were either too costly or did not hold up as well in this corrosive environment. Intensive communication was needed between the galvanizer and fabricator because of the extremely complex tubular structures and assemblies that require proper venting and draining in order to a achieve a high-quality galvanized coating. This finish was necessary so that a rough or inconsistent coating would not inadvertently harm personnel or the animals.
