Woody Hayes Handrail is named after a strong perfectionist greatly admired by those who support The Ohio State University. The quality of the Woody Hayes Bridge's corrosion protection greatly reflects his personal qualities. With only three weeks to game day, the original plan of paint alone was changed to a duplex system, combining hot-dip galvanizing (HDG) and powder coating. The University has enjoyed the benefits of HDG in the past and quickly decided they should utilize on the bridge as well.
The quality of the Woody Hayes Bridge's corrosion protection greatly reflects his personal qualities.
The bridge, frequently subject to snow, rain, and road salt, needed a strong system to withstand these elements while also meeting the desired aesthetic standards. Powder coating gave the bridge a very ornate and flawless coating with a high gloss finish, for the 56,000 students and over 150,000 football fans who cross this bridge every season to enjoy. Thanks to the longevity of the hot-dip galvanizing and powder coating duplex system, Woody Hayes railing will be there to support them for the coming years of victory and defeat
