The Calvin Coolidge Bridge is a highly traveled bridge between Massachusetts and Vermont and New Jersey. The Northeastern climate can be treacherous in the winter, which requires sand and salt to ease travel in the snow. The bridge rails were specified for galvanizing because the painted bridge rail could not withstand the harsh climate and salt from the roads.
The rails were galvanized and then powder coated for aesthetic appeal and to increase the corrosion protection against the elements. The duplex coating of hot-dip galvanizing and powder coating will ensure an attractive bridge for commuters well into the future.
