Parents raised $225,000 to renovate a communal space at White Station High School which included several artistic pieces by local artist Elisha Gold. The project was executed by a group of parents who saw an opportunity for private funds — along with private control of projects — to help improve the spirit of public schools. That's how the project to revamp the courtyard, a previously dirty and deserted space between classroom buildings and the school's cafeteria, climbed to the top of the list.
It brightens up the school. ~11th-grader Joshua-James Claybon
Local artist Elisha Gold was commissioned to create name placards, decorative triangular wall art, and a working water wheel for the project. Elisha decided to galvanize the steel for many reasons, including durability and a long lasting coating. Ultimately, the appearance of the hot dip galvanized coating provided the aesthetic he was looking for.
