CloseThis bright, shiny hot-dip galvanized obelisk proudly overlooks the beautiful plains in Washington, Kansas. The obelisk is a replica of its brother in Washington, D.C., and a point of pride for many in the community. The galvanizing process was chosen for corrosion protection after a life-cycle cost analysis proved HDG would be more cost efficient over the life of the project.
Affordability, paired with long-lasting corrosion protection and durability made galvanizing an easy choice. Another deciding factor for galvanizing this project was the final finished look; the gray zinc finish of the galvanized coating delivered a high-quality aesthetic in a natural color suited to the monument.
The most challenging aspect of galvanizing this miniature monument was ensuring proper venting and drainage holes were in place, as the inside of the structure is a labyrinth of braces that could constrict draining. After careful consultation, the proper measures were taken, and the project was galvanized with great success. This monument is a novel addition to the area and is well on its way to becoming a Kansas landmark.
