Visited by thousands of I-45 travelers, the Walker County rest area is an oasis between Houston and Dallas. The rest stop utilized the aesthetic appeal of exposed hot-dip galvanized (HDG) steel in a woodland environment. HDG was not only chosen for its aesthetics; its virtually maintenance free. The galvanized components of the rest area include joists, handrail, wide flange beams, and tables. Prior to HDG, these components were sized to fit in the kettles so the process would run smoothly.
HDG was not only chosen for its aesthetics; its virtually maintenance free.
The Walker Country rest area shines beautifully and is a great addition to the Texas Department of Transportations newly designed facilities. Its air conditioned and heated restroom, wireless internet, tornado shelters, walking trails, and playground areas give the rest area allure. HDG will ensure these attributes will be available to decades of Texas travelers.
