The Southeast Pennsylvania Transportation Authority continues to be an advocate for hot-dip galvanizing in their many stations throughout Pennsylvania. Time and time again, they have embraced hot-dip galvanizing as a necessary coating to incorporate into the design of their many outdoor canopies, stairways and rail stations. Many of SEPTAs stations utilize outdoor canopies, stairs, and rails that are frequented by millions of travelers each year. 

To hold up to both the harsh weather and the general wear and tear of the public foot traffic, SEPTA has chosen HDG to protect their steel structures. Quality was an immediate focal point when designing any public use facility due to the safety, durability, and visual appeal to which said facilities are subjected. To ensure the safety of the many commuters traveling through their walkways and stair towers, tedious cleaning procedures and quality-control measures were put into place when galvanizing the rails and frames. As most of these structures were subject to the elements, corrosion performance is always a priority. 

Hot-dip galvanizing was utilized to protect these structures and ensure minimal maintenance is needed in future years. This forward thinking will allow SEPTA to save money in the long run. The station is located in a well-traveled area in the city of Philadelphia, and subject to heavy traffic of everyday commuters and visitors alike daily. Instead of trying to hide the galvanized steel on this project, they celebrated it in the use of their design throughout their facility. Through careful design and fabrication efforts, the galvanizing of these structures was able to be performed to uphold the highest levels of quality.
