Nestled in a suburban area of Kansas City, Missouri, in the Sac and Fox Reservation, there is a recycling trailer that has been serving the neighborhood for over 15 years. The galvanized trailer was delivered for service in November of 2001 and will continue to serve the local recycling efforts well into the future. A HDG coating was specified to help the unit be sustainable.
The galvanized trailer was delivered for service in November of 2001 and will continue to serve the local recycling efforts well into the future.
Dempsters, LLC was the fabricator of the unit and they wanted the trailer to be able to face up to the challenges of both environment and the harshness of recycling efforts. The trailer was the only galvanized recycling of its kind at the time and HDG was specified to eliminate corrosion issues that were evident in the painted alternatives.
Having had prior experience with HDG, Dempsters, LLC wanted to take sustainability to the next level and totally eliminate corrosion issues. The trailer has performed to their expectations and looking at the trailer today, aside from peeling stickers and a well formed patina, it may be difficult to detect its actual age. All readings taken exceed current ASTM 123 requirements.
In discussion with Russ Behrens from Dempsters, LLC he was experienced with HDG and knew the benefits up front. To totally take corrosion issues out of the picture was their goal. The elements of turn time and ease of specifying were important to them and the customers they intended to serve. Initial and lifecycle costs were also major reasons for choosing HDG. In his own words, Russ described that they "have now put these trailers in Hawaii as well, where the harsh environment is a real test of sustainability and happy to report that they are also standing the test of time, with zero maintenance costs to date for the hot dip galvanized coating."
