Northern Quest Resort & Casino wanted to build a beautiful outdoor venue, expecting to have more than 50 - 60 events and 75,000 – 85,000 fans in the grandstands annually. Although Spokane receives less rainfall than most places in Washington, it does receive an average of 44 inches of snow per year. This makes Spokane one of the snowiest places in Washington. Therefore, fan safety and corrosion protection were major concerns during the initial design stages. Accordingly, Hot-dip galvanizing was specified for its long lasting, maintenance free, corrosion protection as well as aesthetics - as the zinc coating will offer decades of consistent, rust free appearance compared to paints that will fade and deteriorate over time. The complete understructure, stringers and rail risers consists of Hot- dip galvanized structural steel members that will be corrosion free for generations to come, ensuring the safety of the fans enjoying the outdoor venue.

Northern Quest Resort & Casino wanted the fans to experience more than just a seat in the grandstands. Therefore the engineers and fabricator had to add drink rails for VIP seating at the front 2 rows, ramp towers on both ends serving a VIP covered mixing area for protection from inclement weather. Vertical picket guard rails were also installed for fan fall protection.

Because of the distance between the fabricator and the project location, prompt delivery of materials was essential to meeting construction deadlines, and the completion date could not be subject to weather delays. With material able to be handled just minutes after removal from the kettle, and the HDG process remaining independent of weather conditions, fabricators were able to meet scheduled deadlines without sacrificing the quality of performance of the coated steel.

Northern Quest Resort & Casino has built a beautiful Hot-dip galvanized outdoor venue with grandstands that seat more than 2,800 fans, as well as 2 VIP covered mixing areas to provide protection from inclement weather. This Hot-dip galvanized, aesthetically pleasing venue will be highly visible to all casino and resort guests, promoting HDG as the coating preference for all outdoor concert venues for future generations.
