Austin Community College Pedestrian Bridge
Austin, TX United States | 2004
Hanson citizens used to walk on a sidewalk and cross a stream by way of a major highway to visit a public park and the Nathaniel Thomas Mill. An Eagle Scout candidate saw the significance of a bridge connecting the park and the mill, making it safer for the people of Hanson to enjoy that 306-year-old mill.
...the issue of corrosion prevention was apparent and hot-dip galvanizing was the logical choice.
Considering the need for longevity and blending in with the mill and the surrounding environment, the architect designed a steel-frame footbridge with wooden rails. Since the footbridge spans a small stream, the issue of corrosion prevention was apparent and hot-dip galvanizing was the logical choice.
