Lake Travis in Austin, Texas is the epicenter of lake recreation in the central Texas region. With 30 square miles of surface area, Lake Travis has the largest storage capacity of the seven reservoirs known as the Highland Lakes, and stretches 65 miles upriver from western Travis County in a highly serpentine course into southern Burnet County, southwest of the town of Marble Falls. The level of the lake can vary dramatically with an over 96-foot range between its historical high and low.
The location, size, fluctuation and boat traffic of this lake brings many challenges for designers wanting to accommodate property owners on the shoreline. Dependable Docks specializes in customizing structures that will traverse the shoreline, provide ease of access and withstand the harsh environment of Lake Travis all while incorporating a clean maintenance free aesthetic quality to the dock.
Galvanizing the products maximizes the life of the structure and maximizes the customer’s investment along with minimizing maintenance so they get to enjoy their time on the water.
The highlighted project incorporates a stair system to extend from the full lake level down to the waterline where it meets with the entrance of the dock. The dock incorporates 2 boat slips, an upper deck, storage building, and side mounted jet ski slips with a cantilevered awning. The project incorporated 20 tons of steel fabricated in to components for on site assembly out of bare steel. The Galvanizer was able to carefully handle all components from full size frames to small connection brackets and expertly coat them with a consistent durable galvanized finish that added to the clean look of the dock and stair system.
The corrosion resistance of the galvanized coating is especially critical on the access stairs leading to the dock. Any length of these stairs can be submerged for years at a time only to be exposed by the fluctuation of the lake. Once exposed these stairs are expected to withstand the abuse of the dock connection during floods, high winds, and wave action. The galvanized coating prevents these components from corrosion therefore maintaining the structural integrity keeping the dock and customers safe. Galvanizing the products maximizes the life of the structure and maximizes the customer’s investment along with minimizing maintenance so they get to enjoy their time on the water.
