Hudson River Park Serpentine Structure

The Hudson River serpent shines brightly in New York City as though it is twisting out of the sand, even though it is anchored in the surrounded concrete. Artist Mark Gibian created all 13 tons of the structure from steel with the same chemistry so it would have the best possible hot-dip galvanized (HDG) finish. The serpent was created to contribute to the revitalization of the surrounding area. It was essential this sculptures beauty withstand the test of time without the help of maintenance.

Children and adults have the ability to climb on the structure because of the way it is anchored in the concrete. For their safety, it is exceptionally important the sculpture can resist corrosion and remain structurally sound. Because of all these advantages, when the project was only a vision in Mark Gibians creative mind, it was already destined for galvanizing. This great galvanized structure will stand the test of time, looking over the Hudson River Park for years to come.
