The artist of the Backyard Bison makes sculptures as a hobby. As he intends to sit this decorative lawn ornament in his yard where it will be exposed to the elements, he wanted to ensure it doesn't become a rusted eyesore.
The Bison weldment was fabricated using many different types of steel including mesh and plate. The number one reason he chose to have the artwork hot-dip galvanized was for corrosion protection. Time to First Maintenance was also key as the artist continues to age, he did not want his inability to keep up with touch up or repair work to diminish the sculpture over time.
