Wisdom Rides located in Merino, Colorado is a world-class manufacturer of amusement rides for carnivals, fun centers, and amusement parks. Founded in 1969 by Jerry Wisdom under the original name; Wisdom Industries, the company became one of the first in the amusement rides industry to trailer mount rides for the ease and portability of traveling shows.
Hot-dip galvanizing has become the essential protective coating for battling the effects of corrosion...
As a leader in innovative amusement ride designs, Wisdom Rides remains steadfast on developing new exciting rides while continuing to build and service the ever popular classic rides including Genesis, Moby Dick, Dragon Wagon, Alien Abduction, Sizzler, Tornado and many others.
These rides excite and thrill as they spin and twist, accelerate and brake and then repeat the same series of actions several dozen times per day. The safety of the riders is paramount, and the structural integrity of every critical component in these rides is continually under scrutiny.
The National Association of Amusement Ride Safety Officials (NAARSO) of which Wisdom Rides is a long time member, is dedicated to the advancement of amusement ride and device safety. This organization, comprised of amusement ride inspectors representing jurisdictional agencies, insurance companies, private consultants, federal government agencies as well as safety professionals from amusement facilities and traveling shows, ensures that rider safety remains at the forefront.
This is where galvanizing comes in. These rides can remain exposed for much of their service life and unrelenting corrosion is a major concern, especially for the rides that operate primarily in coastal regions including those that operate out on the piers, directly over the ocean for several months of the year.
Hot-dip galvanizing has become the essential protective coating for battling the effects of corrosion in these harsh, high salt/precipitation environments. Wisdom Rides offers hot dip galvanizing options on all steel components including the transport trailers the rides are mounted to.
Many of the structural components for these rides including the seat frames, personal restraints and scenery framework are of tube design and unseen internal corrosion is one of the biggest concerns for Wisdom Rides.
Since the inside of these hollow components are not visible, it is not apparent if there is a corrosion problem. Fortunately, hot-dip galvanizing coats all surfaces, providing the critical, long lasting internal protection to ensure structural integrity and instill confidence.
Wisdom Rides works closely with the galvanizer to design hollow components with precisely sized and located vent and drain holes that will allow the galvanizer to completely coat the internal surfaces of each component with equal protection to the outside surfaces. Once galvanized these holes are easily repaired using aluminum tapered plugs that can be installed quickly without damaging the galvanized coating.
The versatility of the hot dip galvanized coating is an added bonus as special safety materials including molded, soft urethane foam covers for rider restraints and lap bars can be applied directly over the hot dip coat. Once the galvanizing is complete, urethane safety features added and the ride is reassembled, its ready to battle the corrosive elements for the long haul.
Jerry Wisdom has since passed away, but his innovative spirit in the development of new amusement rides with portability remains a passion at Wisdom Rides today. Along with his innovative spirit living on, his rides will also stand the test of time because of the use of galvanization.
Wisdom Rides will continue to design and build the safest, most exciting rides in the industry, to delight our communities for decades to come, and hot-dip galvanizing will play a vital role, providing a level of protection, safety and confidence not possible with other protective coatings.
