Since Nexus Energy Solutions rolled out in 2010, theyve completed $1 million worth of similar solar panel projects on a handful of other structures in order to reduce dependence on foreign sources of energy. Having worked with Nexus Energy Solutions in the past on similar projects, the choice of HDG was an easy one for both the engineers and owners.
The project called for 250 tons of structural steel to be galvanized and delivered to the site in less than 2 months. The fabricator had requested that each load be completed in and delivered in an expeditous manner in order to keep the job site erecting without delay. The galvanizing process allowed for the quick application of the coating as well as the superior performance of corrosion protection. New structural steel dunnage framing was placed above the top level of the existing precast concrete parking structure to support 44,000 square feet of new solar panels
Officials said the electricity generated by solar energy will offset the costs of all electricity needs within the garage, and 20 to 30 percent of the energy required at the Medicine Center directly across the street. Underwood Memorial Hospital hopes to save an estimated $65,000 in annual energy costs.
