Petone Elevator

Longevity can be defined as long existence or service. It is a term commonly used to describe the hot-dip galvanized (HDG) coating and is what the industry embodies. Longevity is what the HDG industry has over any other coating without an argument. Longevity is what Union Iron and their agricultural community demand when it comes to their products. Union Iron has been serving the industrial agriculture community since 1852 making them one of the oldest in their industry. Union Iron specializes in bucket elevators and ag conveyor systems. One of Union Iron's more recent projects was the Petone Elevator.

The agricultural community is choosing hot-dip galvanizing because its sustainable, long-lasting, and requires little to no upkeep.

This project consisted of more than 150,000 Lbs of steel. The farm community they serve demands high quality, long lasting structures, which is exactly what they get when they chose HDG over paint. The agricultural community has seen its biggest boom in the past 10 years and with that came a demand for more agricultural structures like the Petone Elevator. As a direct result of this is the hot-dip galvanizing industry has seen its highest volume of agricultural work in the past 10 years.

All over the Midwest the ag community is building new structures and the majority are being hot-dip galvanized. Why HDG over paint? The agricultural community is choosing hot-dip galvanizing because its sustainable, long lasting, and requires little to no upkeep. Painting the structures would require additional upkeep which costs time and money. Hot-dip galvanizing the products provides abrasion resistance, a common issue with ag structures. For this reason and many others, the agricultural community prefers hot-dip galvanized steel.
