Creating a massive arched housing for grain storage, the Akron services project is a dynamic structure that creates substantial benefits for use in a wide variety of areas, including agriculture, industrial, commercial, and civic construction. Because it is critical for the tall structure to remain standing strong, unweakened by corrosion, hot-dip galvanized steel was specified for the more than 92,000 lbs of structural steel trusses and braces.
A quick turnaround was necessary for this project, and the climate controlled galvanizing process was ideal for this. Conducted regardless of inclement weather, the speedy galvanizing process allowed this project to be expedited in only 3 days.
Once put in the field, minimal maintenance was key for this massive, difficult to access structure. Unlike paint, galvanized steel requires no regular maintenance or touch-up for 75 years or more, making it perfect for difficult to reach structures. Also, the attractive, matte gray appearance of the zinc coating will keep the structure looking appealing, as it is located within sight of two major highways. Galvanized steel will keep this structure standing strong against the elements for decades.
