The Northwestern Community Hospital entrance canopy is one of the first features people notice when pulling into the facility. An impressively large structure powder coated in a smooth white finish welcomes patients and visitors to the hospital and provides a much needed cover from the often harsh Illinois weather.
The architect of this project first realized the need for a good corrosion protection system when considering Chicagos highly corrosive environment. Hot-dip galvanizing with paint was the obvious choice after learning a HDG duplex system choice can last 1.5 to 2 times longer without maintenance than other options, far exceeding expectations. The challenging structure required careful planning and communication with the galvanizer, but was successfully completed.
A worry-free corrosion protection system requiring little to no maintenance is especially important in a hospital environment where interruptions for continuous maintenance would be unacceptable. Thanks to the increased protection of a duplex system, the entrance canopy can continue in service uninterrupted for decades to come.
