All of the handrail seen from the outside of the stadium and all of that used by patrons in the seating area was originally specified to be painted Philadelphia Eagle's green. After a concerted effort by the galvanizer and fabricator, the owners were convinced that the matte gray hot-dip galvanized coating was not only the right coating for durability purposes but also for appearance.

They conceded that HDG would withstand the wear and tear delivered by the many thousands of patrons attending stadium events, including the scratching of rings, jacket zippers, etc. and that painting of the handrail would be a recurring cost. The matte gray also was close to the minor color of the team, silver. A compressed schedule and quality were also huge drivers of the project. Galvanizing simply performed to the normal standards to meet the required delivery. As for quality, the team owner's wife was leading the charge here and with complete cooperation between the fabricator and galvanizer, the hot-dip galvanized coating was smooth and of consistent color, more than meeting the high expectations. Not to be lost on the owner was the long-term cost savings delivered by the maintenance free zinc coating.
