Hot-dip galvanized steel handrail, guardrail, stands, and fencing enjoys a long history of success in NASCAR circuit racetracks. This made the selection of zinc-coated steel for the Dale Earnhardt Terrace of the Las Vegas Motor Speedway an easy decision. A long-term, maintenance-free facility with an attractive appearance that is compatible with the rugged image of NASCAR racing, was a driving force in the decision-making process.
There was no concern about the durability of the zinc coating...
Nineteen-hundred tons of steel were hot-dip galvanized over 1,200 miles from the speedway, then transported for erection. During this process, it was strictly required that each piece of steel be marked with Durotag(TM) labels, ensuring methodical transitioning from the delivery trucks to the assembly staging area. There was no concern about the durability of the zinc coating to withstand the rough treatment of transport or erection at the site, and only hot-dip galvanizing would ensure the quick turnaround time from the fabricator, to the galvanizer, and, finally, to the site. With the high visibility of the terrace and the prominent namesake it carries, the inspection process was rigorous-- it even included the Earnhardt family. This magnificent terrace compliments the rest of the speedway structure in appearance, durability, and image.
