Rosales, the designer of the Riverwalk Pedestrian Bridge in Hickory, NC, promotes their bridges as structural art, and this project is no exception. The Riverwalk Pedestrian Bridge is a segment of the Hickory Trail, which showcases one of the community’s most beautiful natural features the Catawba River and Lake Hickory. The elevated walkway will connect the community to the lake and river and provide visitors spectacular views of the adjacent mountains and landscape.
The pedestrian bridge is an exciting destination for pedestrians and visitors interested in walking over the water to enjoy spectacular views of the adjacent mountains and landscape.
The walkway consists of a light and elegant inverted Fink Truss structure with masts in a color that blends with the natural environment. The walkway is innovative and cost effective and it will be longest of this type of unique structural system in the United States.
The seating areas, aesthetic lighting and wooden deck walking surface add to the experience for all users. The new pedestrian bridge is well integrated into adjacent landscape, and it is expected to become a regional tourist site due to its unique location over the river. Hot-dip galvanizing was selected for its durability and corrosion resistance since the bridge spans a portion of Hickory Lake The Duplex system was chosen to ensure the aesthetic value of the coating remains.
