Category 2 Hurricane Ike made landfall in the heavily populated Southeastern Coast of Texas in September 23, 2008 and caused widespread damage and flooding along the Gulf Coast communities. Given the destruction caused in the area and the already harsh marine environment, business owners along the coast are building durable buildings which are corrosion resistant and sustainable should any natural disasters occur in the future.

Along the Gulf coast, hot-dip galvanized steel enjoys a great reputation as being an ideal building component to use for any type of structure that will last many years. For over 40 years, the Galveston Yacht Basin has been the center of boating along the Gulf Coast. When the owners decided to rebuild this 57,000 square-foot Drystack Storage Facility which houses 300 boats ranging in size from 20' to 42', it is no wonder they specified the use of hot-dip galvanized structural steel to withstand the elements.
