The $35 million project included the development of a floating dock and a 1,000 foot floating walkway from the Steel Bridge to the Burnside Bridge. The walkway is one of the longest floating walkways built in the US, and must withstand the force of a 100-year flood and exposure to the elements. Sustainability was also a big concern, as salmon and steelhead had both recently been added to the listing under the Endangered Species Act. With all of these needs in mind, the specifier chose hot-dip galvanized steel for all the structural steel and fasteners used to support the dock. With a minimal impact on the environment, hot-dip galvanized steel will provide a long, maintenance-free life for decades.
