After 115 years of service, the Natick Central Fire Station would have succumbed to the wrecking ball were it not for the perseverance of some Natick citizens that envisioned turning the building into the permanent Arts Center.

Through the effort of thousands of volunteers, sponsors and contributors, the Center for Arts in Natick was refurbished and opened in 2003 with a state-of-the art lighting and sound system to accommodate 280 patrons for each performance. The finishing touch on the new center was restoring the historic cupola in 2004. The structural engineer and architect on the project were familiar with galvanizing and wanted only the best means of corrosion protection for the miscellaneous steel and railings in the cupola. Ultimately, a duplex system of paint over galvanizing was chosen and all materials were graciously donated by the galvanizer.
