CloseTwenty-five years ago, Brazos Power built the entire first Concord Substation utilizing hot-dip galvanized steel. Today, that same steel still has 6-7 mils of zinc continuing to protect it. In 2009, an expansion was called for, and hot-dip galvanizing (HDG) was chosen once again to protect this substation. The benefits of using HDG steel include durable corrosion protection, competitive initial costs, outstanding life cycle costs, and the environmental advantage of using one hundred percent recyclable steel. The galvanizing process also boasts a short turnaround time, which was very important for this project since completion required the rental of a crane and scheduling was very tight. The appearance of the HDG on this project came off quite successfully, leaving the substation with a clean, uniform appearance. The sustainable, reliable, protective coating of HDG will protect both the old and the new Concord substation for generations to come.
