In 1992, the Norman B. Leventhal Park at Post Office Square was opened. Located in Boston’s Financial District, it is one of the busiest vehicle and pedestrian traffic areas in the entire City. The primary architectural feature within the park is in the South Plaza: a glass-and-copper structure, styled as a garden pavilion which houses a year-round café.
To ensure the planters and guard rail frames would remain maintenance free and aesthetically pleasing, the architect specified hot-dip galvanizing with a duplex coating system.
In 2019, the owners of the café were looking to expand. They wanted to maintain the Park’s integrity and create a boundary between the roadway and the café. To achieve their goals, a new terrace was built. A series of steel planters were designed to complement the landscape, and a glass guard rail provided the necessary separation from the surrounding park and streets.
