James Hetheringtons works are visual accounts of feverish endeavors to satiate his unquenchable curiosity of the human condition. One such sculpture, Antorcha, represents his personal tribute to those that have fallen while dedicating their lives as fire fighters.
This piece of art is completely composed of repurposed materials; left over handrail balusters from a local river project, a large ferrule from a salvage yard, a left over bollard from a construction site, and four segments from I-beam drops utilized as the base, all are carefully welded into a twelve foot sculpture. This towering work was then sandblasted before having it hot-dip galvanized and the flames finished with a red powder coat. The entire sculpture, from conception to realization bespeaks of the courage, bravery, and strength so ingrained in the souls of those who fearlessly face the ever-present dangers while serving the desperate needs of this world. Antorcha now rests peacefully in the garden of a private collector.
