Not only does hot-dip galvanizing telecommunication towers provide the durability necessary to withstand Alaska's rugged and harsh environment for 50 or more years, it delivers maintenance-free performance despite the complex distribution challenges of the towers themselves. Most communication towers are produced on the east coast and purchased by private individuals and companies around North America for ham radio, wireless Internet, live web cams, and pager service.
All of the tower legs, braces, mounting plates, and fasteners were hot-dip galvanized...
The KL7AR tower was shipped in knock-down form on two pallets, providing substantial shipping and handling savings over single- or double-piece shipping. Only the durable hot-dip galvanized coating would allow for such shipping, handling, final field assembly, and erection with little or no touch-up required. All of the tower legs, braces, mounting plates, and fasteners were hot-dip galvanized to deliver long-term corrosion protection in a setting where weather extremes are notorious. Of additional benefit is its aesthetic appearance, complementary to the wonder of nature on this last frontier.
